Photo Gallery and Pattern

At last I have finished Grape Vine Leaves and it has been worth the effort of knitting a garment in 4 ply.

Yarn: Stylecraft Life 4 ply - 250g
Tension: 28sts and 36 rows to 10cm on 3.25mm needles
Pattern: The trailing grape vine leaves are from Karho by Anni Laine the rest I made up as I went along.
Equipment: needles - 3mm, 3.25mm, 2.5mm circular and stitch markers
Measurements: Length - 59cm/23inches, Length to arm - 39 cm/15 inches, Length from arm to shoulder - 20cm/8inches, Chest when stretched - 124cm/48 inches

Pattern

Front

3mm - Cast on 154sts - K4, P4 rib for 10 rows

Increase  to 179 sts evenly across the row.

3.25mm - set up row

P2 K5 P5 K5 P5 K5 - place marker, Chart 1 from Karho, place marker - K5 P5 K5 P5 K5 - place marker, Chart 2 from Karho, place marker - K5 P5 K5 P5 K5 - place marker, Chart 3 from Karho, place marker - K5 P5 K5 P5 K5 P2



Work as set - following chart and ribbing until work measures 38 cm.

Armhole and Neck Shaping - worked simultaneously.

Cast off 13 stitches at the beginning of the next two rows for armhole.
Next row - pattern 88 put middle 3 stitches onto a holder (safety pin) and turn and work one side of the neck at a time.

Shaping - Dec 1stitch at armhole on the next 7 knit rows.  At the same time - Dec 1 stitch at neck edge on next 23 knit rows (this should leave you with 44 stitches).

Continue in pattern until work measures  59 cms - cast off.

Repeat shaping on the other side leaving 3 stitches on holder in the middle.

Back


3mm - Cast on 154sts - K4, P4 rib for 10 rows

Increase  to 179 sts evenly across the row.

3.25mm - Work in Stocking Stitch until work measures 38 cms.

Shape armhole - Cast off 13 stitches at the beginning of the next two rows. Dec 1stitch at armhole on the next 7 knit rows. 

Continue until work measures 59 cms. 

Cast off but put the middle 70 stitches onto a holder. 

Neck

Sew up all seams.

2.5mm circular needle - Pick up and knit in K4 P4 rib - 112 stitches up left neck edge - continue across the 70 stitches on the back and pick and knit 112 stitches down the right edge of the neck. 

On this row Knit all 3 stitches on holder. 
Rib for 8 rows - centre as follows:
Rib to last stitch before 3 middle stitches - K2 tog, Knit middle stitch, Slip 1 Knit 1 psso.

After 8 rows cast off loosely.


Armholes

2.5mm circular needle - Pick up and knit in K4 P4 rib 176 stitches around each armhole - rib for 8 rows cast off loosely. 



Sew in all ends - block and wear:)
